  Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)

Course Description:
This 4-hour program provides participants with a working knowledge of the main components of WHMIS. It will include an understanding of the information required to be on labels and material safety data sheets of all materials found at the work site. Also discussed will be the legal responsibilities of suppliers, employers and workers with respect of legislation.

The objectives of this course are:
Each of the thirteen provincial, territorial and federal agencies responsible for occupational safety and health have established employer WHMIS requirements within their respective jurisdiction. These requirements place an onus on employers to ensure that controlled products used, stored, handled or disposed of in the workplace are properly labelled, MSDSs are made available to workers, and receive education and training to ensure the safe storage, handling and use of controlled products in the workplace.
